A Walk in the City
I went for a walk in my new neighborhood in San Francisco this morning, partly to get to know it better and partly because my apartment is not my favorite place I've ever lived. As I strolled down Irving and grabbed a cup of coffee from the local spot then walked up to the 16th Avenue steps, it occurred to me this was never something I did in Denver. You could never just go for a walk there. I had always found myself driving to one of the parks or driving out of the city to get into the mountains. There was nothing enjoyable about making my way around the streets of Denver. There were no views, no cute neighborhoods that were the perfect mix of retail and residential. But SF seems to have found that perfect blend. Even better, when I got to the top of the steps I had a quick view of both the downtown area and the ocean. I've always said I prefer mountains to water, and this still holds true. But looking out on the abrupt end of the world dropping off into the still water was exactly what I needed this morning to break out of my gloomy, job search thoughts and begin to appreciate this new city and how much more I love it here than Colorado.
